Bearing Witness
Greg Locke
Bonnie Leyton
Dates Showing: October 4th - November 8th, 1998

Greg Locke will be presenting photographs with Bonnie Leyton's mixed media installation in a blackened room. This exhibition explores their experiences along the border of Zaire and Rwande during the crisis in November and December of 1996. Locke is a photojournalist who is collaborating on a book about Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) with Sociologist/Anthropologist Elliott Leyton; Bonnie Leyton is an artist and a potter who traveled to Rwanda with Locke and husband Elliott. As witnesses to genocide and other human rights violations, the two artists' exhibit will call attention to the state of crisis in Africa. Both Leyton and Locke presented lectures hosted by the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, on Tuesday October 13, 1998, at 7:00 PM.

A catalogue of this exhibition including images and text by both artists, along with an introduction by Kathryn Welbourn, is available to view and is for sale at the gallery.
